We had wrapped the initial shoot of I Don't Even Skate in
October 2024 but there were still a few scenes we needed to pick up in January (2025).
Everything was set to go: the crew was ready, the cast was hyped, and we were cruising along until... one of the most devastating wildfires in California's history hit.
The city was in chaos, and many of our cast and crew had to evacuate. The air was thick with uncertainty, but we knew one thing for sure: we couldn’t afford to miss our deadline: The film had to be finished before the month was out.
So, we did what seemed impossible: we reshot the entire film. With the wildfires still raging, we worked with the actors who were still in town, and for those who couldn’t return, we found new faces to step in. Every day, the pressure was mounting, but it didn’t break us—it only made us more determined.
More than ever, safety was our top priority, so we ensured it was safe to shoot and that everyone felt secure and supported, but the stakes were higher than ever. What could have been a huge setback turned into a defining moment for the film.
It was a story of perseverance, pushing through the fire, quite literally.
And, in many ways, it became a reflection of Nahiki herself. Like her, we faced obstacles that seemed unbeatable, but we kept going. We came out on the other side stronger, with a film that was more than just a project—it was a testament to the resilience of everyone involved.
Terminamos el rodaje inicial de I Don’t Even Skate en octubre de 2024, pero aún quedaban algunas escenas que necesitábamos grabar en enero de 2025.

Todo estaba listo: el equipo técnico preparado, el elenco emocionado, y todo iba sobre ruedas hasta que… uno de los incendios forestales más devastadores en la historia de California ocurrió.
La ciudad estaba en caos, y muchos miembros del elenco y del equipo tuvieron que evacuar. El aire estaba cargado de incertidumbre, pero había algo que teníamos claro: no podíamos darnos el lujo de perder el plazo. La película tenía que estar terminada antes de que acabara el mes.
Así que hicimos lo que parecía imposible: volvimos a filmar toda la película.
Con los incendios aún activos, trabajamos con los actores que seguían en la ciudad, y para quienes no pudieron regresar, buscamos nuevos rostros que tomaran sus lugares. Cada día, la presión aumentaba, pero no nos quebró—al contrario, nos hizo más decididos.

Más que nunca, la seguridad fue nuestra máxima prioridad. Nos aseguramos de que fuera seguro grabar, y que todos se sintieran protegidos y respaldados. Pero los riesgos eran más altos que nunca. Lo que pudo haber sido un gran tropiezo se transformó en un momento decisivo para la película.

Fue una historia de perseverancia, de atravesar el fuego—literalmente.
Y, en muchos sentidos, se convirtió en un reflejo de la propia Nahiki.
Como ella, enfrentamos obstáculos que parecían imposibles, pero seguimos adelante.
Salimos del otro lado más fuertes, con una película que ya no era solo un proyecto, sino un testimonio de la resiliencia de todas las personas que formaron parte.
