REN TRAN
I started skating about 10 years ago after a spiritual awakening pushed me to overcome my fears. I had always thought it was so cool and that maybe I could do it, too… Fast forward and its become way more than that.
Skating has brought me so many good things in life. It means ~~~connection~~~ to me: connection with yourself and your mental, connection with your board and your body and your art/craft, connection to people and a community, and connection to Being (the thing we are all bound by). This is why when you hear the sounds of a skateboard you can’t help but look 👀
Empecé a patinar hace unos 10 años, después de un despertar espiritual que me impulsó a enfrentar mis miedos. Siempre me había parecido algo muy cool y pensaba que tal vez yo también podría hacerlo… Avanzando en el tiempo, se ha convertido en mucho más que eso. El skate me ha traído muchas cosas buenas en la vida.
Para mí, patinar significa ~~~conexión~~~:
conexión contigo mismo y tu mente,
con tu tabla, tu cuerpo y tu arte/oficio,
con otras personas y una comunidad,
y con el Ser (eso que nos une a todos).
Por eso, cuando escuchas el sonido de una patineta, no puedes evitar voltear a mirar 👀

My hobbies including bike riding, reading, thrifting, and just any sort of creative outlet. I started skating at 14. Skateboard has always been my favorite outlet of expression. I never really loved organized sports and being yelled at by coaches. Skateboard has changed my life in so many different ways I couldn’t imagine who I be without my board.
Mis pasatiempos incluyen andar en bici, leer, ir de thrifting (buscar ropa de segunda mano) y cualquier tipo de actividad creativa. Empecé a patinar a los 14. El skate siempre ha sido mi forma favorita de expresarme. Nunca me gustaron mucho los deportes organizados ni que los entrenadores me gritaran. La patineta ha cambiado mi vida de tantas formas que no puedo imaginar quién sería sin ella.

EMMA VALDEZ
Acting became a safe haven for me, a way to escape the gang-ridden streets I grew up in. Attending Plaza De La Raza as a teen was truly life-changing. Although Fashion Design eventually became my focus as an adult, Theatre has always been my first love.​

I’ve appeared in 9 short films, including I Don’t Even Skate, where I play Emilia. That role gave me the chance to reflect on past experiences with former employers, and I had so much fun diving into the emotional depth and complexity of the character. The cast and crew were incredibly kind and professional, and the improvisation and character development sessions with the marvelous Director Z were truly priceless.
La actuación se convirtió en un refugio para mí, una forma de escapar de las calles llenas de pandillas en las que crecí. Asistir a Plaza De La Raza en mi adolescencia fue una experiencia que me cambió la vida. Aunque el Diseño de Moda se convirtió eventualmente en mi enfoque como adulta, el Teatro siempre ha sido mi primer amor.

He participado en 9 cortometrajes, incluyendo I Don’t Even Skate, donde interpreto a Emilia. Ese personaje me dio la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre experiencias pasadas con antiguos empleadores, y disfruté muchísimo explorando la profundidad emocional y complejidad del personaje. El elenco y el equipo fueron increíblemente amables y profesionales, y las sesiones de improvisación y desarrollo de personaje con la maravillosa directora Z fueron realmente invaluables.
