I make emotionally raw, intimate films centered on women who aren’t traditionally seen as strong—until strong is the only choice. I Don’t Even Skate is a short film about Nahiki, a young woman in
Los Angeles whose dream is to skateboard professionally. But to survive in a city like LA—especially as an immigrant—dreams often take a backseat to survival.

Nahiki begins to prioritize work over skating, not because she wants to, but because she has to. That quiet, aching compromise is the heart of the film. It’s not just about skateboarding.
It’s about that all-too-familiar moment when the life you imagined and the life you’re living start to drift apart.
I made this film to speak to that disorientation—the slow erosion of your purpose under the weight of responsibilities.

Many people have lived it, especially those who come to the U.S. chasing a goal only to find themselves buried in service jobs, working around the clock, unable to breathe, much less create.
But it’s not just an immigrant story. Anyone who’s ever chased a dream and found themselves questioning whether it’s still worth it, will recognize themselves in Nahiki.

She’s caught between passion and practicality, freedom and stability, belonging and authenticity.

Hago películas íntimas y emocionalmente crudas, centradas en mujeres que no suelen ser vistas como fuertes... hasta que ser fuerte se convierte en la única opción.
I Don’t Even Skate es un cortometraje sobre Nahiki, una joven en Los Ángeles cuyo sueño es convertirse en skater profesional. Pero para sobrevivir en una ciudad como Los Ángeles —especialmente siendo inmigrante— los sueños a menudo quedan en segundo plano frente a la necesidad de sobrevivir.

Nahiki empieza a priorizar el trabajo por encima del skate, no porque quiera, sino porque no tiene otra opción. Ese compromiso silencioso y doloroso es el corazón de la película. No se trata solo de patinar.
Se trata de ese momento —tan común y tan duro— en que la vida que imaginabas y la vida que estás viviendo empiezan a separarse.
Hice esta película para hablar de esa desorientación: la lenta erosión de tu propósito bajo el peso de las responsabilidades.
Yo lo he vivido.
Muchas personas lo han vivido, especialmente quienes llegan a Estados Unidos persiguiendo un sueño, solo para encontrarse atrapados en trabajos de servicio, trabajando sin parar, sin poder respirar, mucho menos crear.
Pero no es solo una historia de inmigrantes. Cualquiera que haya perseguido un sueño y se haya preguntado si aún vale la pena, podrá verse reflejado en Nahiki.
